If you are thinking about buying a truck, the big question may be which truck to buy. Of course there are a lot of options, especially within the Ram brand, so you might need some help. Why does Ram make three different trucks?
There are there different trucks in the Ram lineup. Since people have many different needs when they are selecting a truck, and by providing three options, Ram ensures that everyone can find a suitable tool for the job.
The major differences come down to engine, towing, and payload capacity. We will cover each of those below. One final thing to consider is if you want a truck with dual rear wheels, then the Ram 3500 is your only option. Also the Ram 2500 and 3500 both offer a larger cab in the form of the Mega Cab.

If that Cummins Turbo Diesel option seems appealing, there are a few things you should know. Above we quoted the top power output for the engine, but it is actually available in three configurations depending on which Ram truck and which transmission you choose. The option above is only available on the Ram 3500 with the AISIN transmission.
Without the AISIN transmission, power is reduced to 370 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque. This version is also available on the RAM 2500. The Ram 2500 gets the final version of this engine, which comes mated to a manual and gets 350 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque.
